April 3rd, 2025 01:10:04 EDT -0400 Small magnitude 3.6 earthquake 49 miles southeast of False Pass, Alaska, United States

An earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred 32 minutes ago 49 miles southeast of False Pass, Alaska, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 76 miles beneath the epicenter near False Pass, Aleutians East, Alaska, USA, in the evening on Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025, at 8:37 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.6.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In False Pass (pop. 40, 49 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.

April 2nd, 2025 22:31:03 EDT -0400 Small magnitude 3.1 earthquake 20 km southwest of Challans, France

An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 occurred only 4 minutes ago 20 km southwest of Challans, France, France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5. km beneath the epicenter near Challans, Vendée, Pays de la Loire, France, early morning on Thursday, April 3rd, 2025, at 4:26 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.1 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie (pop. 7,300) located 5 km from the epicenter, Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie (pop. 7,300) 5 km away, and Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez (pop. 9,400) 6 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Le Fenouiller (pop. 3,400) located 9 km from the epicenter, Saint-Jean-de-Monts (pop. 7,400) 12 km away, Challans (pop. 18,900) 20 km away, and Les Sables-d'Olonne (pop. 16,100) 27 km away. In La Roche-sur-Yon (pop. 59,400, 44 km away), and Nantes (pop. 318,800, 68 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
