January 27th, 2025 05:58:02 EST -0500 Small 3.5 quake hits near Bursa, Osmangazi, Turkey

A magnitude 3.5 earthquake near Bursa, Osmangazi, Turkey, was reported only 13 minutes ago by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter around noon on Monday, January 27th, 2025, at 1:43 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.1 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 4.0, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 3.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Demirtas (pop. 6,700) located 10 km from the epicenter, Mudanya (pop. 23,200) 12 km away, and Bursa (pop. 1,412,700) 13 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Gursu (pop. 24,500) located 20 km from the epicenter, Gemlik (pop. 71,100) 21 km away, Kestel (pop. 36,200) 22 km away, Orhangazi (pop. 51,800) 34 km away, and İnegöl (pop. 134,000) 51 km away. In Mustafakemalpaşa (pop. 101,400, 57 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
